The Story |

| Thomas Covenant, a writer, having finally had his first book
accepted for publishing, learns that he has Leprosy. His wife, Joan, barely stopping to
tell Thomas, takes their son, Roger, and leaves. When he returns home from the
leprosarium, where he has learnt the skills necessary to survive with Leprosy, he finds
himself alone, ostracised from society - and friendless. One day - while in town - he sees a strange old man and is subsequently hit by a car. Knocked un-conscious he makes his first visit to "The Land". |
